Job Summary

 

The Quality, Health, Safety, Security and Environment (QHSSE) Manager is responsible for driving the zero incident and zero waste culture for Swissport Berlin. The scope of the role covers all BER operational business units and office sites for non-operational staff.

 

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Advise, coach and support the Station Management and Business Line Leaders in implementing, auditing and ensuring compliance to the Swissport Management System, industry standards and local regulations
  • Steer and align QHSSE activities with management and business line leaders at various levels within the operational and functional units
  • In alignment with the global QHSSE strategy propose and establish the local QHSSE roadmap, goals and objectives and adjust to location specific infrastructure, culture, business environment and labour laws
  • Liaise with other country/cluster QHSSE and Swissport’s business units to ensure continuity of QHSSE programs at regional network level
  • Assure incident reporting and proper investigations. Ensure the just culture principles are followed and implemented.(support investigations into more significant events)
  • Facilitate Implementation and review of risk assessments (ensure implementation of risk assessment system and maintain station risk and legal registers in accordance with internal and regulatory requirements)
  • Collation of all accidents, incidents, customer complaints and major process failures with identifying root cause and development of corrective actions
  • Support business line leaders in planning, rolling-out and managing prevention activities (campaigns)
  • Implement norms and standards e.g. ISO/ISAGO when required
  • Follow up on or develop metrics and scorecards to monitor progress and achievements. Deliver regular reports to the station management to foster continual improvement
  • Develop and implement a QHSSE Assurance and supplier qualification audit programme (compliance and audit)
  • Conduct regular operational inspections / analyse operational performance and effectiveness of management oversight / coach and motivate management and employees in achieving targeted outcomes

 

Qualifications and Competencies

 

  • Safety and health qualification, e.g. NEBOSH diploma or German equivalent in safety management
  • Qualification as Occupational Health and Safety Specialist (Fachkraft für Arbeitssicherheit) would be an asset
  • Technical background is a plus
  • Experience ideally in a multi-cultural, international business environment
  • Proven track in implementing QHSSE systems and standards, e.g. ISO9001, 45001, OHSAS 18001, 14001/ISAGO/IGOM/IOSA, certified auditor desirable
  • Knowledge of region, country specific laws and regulations. Knowledge of aviation industry regulations is desirable.
  • Passion for improving QHSSE culture and standards in a challenging environment mainly driven by business performance
  • Ability to drive change in QHSSE culture and to gain credibility in order to persuade, obtain commitment and mobilize management and team to action
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, building strong relationships as required to achieve goals while meeting the needs of the business
  • Work independently and effectively in an evolving, complex and dynamic environment
  • Attention to detail and experience with regulatory requirements
